How we re-implemented Alma Mater Europaea's attendance-monitoring mobile app on modern foundations — students and professors now mark presence in seconds, while the university gains a secure, versioned codebase built to evolve.
A working app — built on foundations that wouldn't move.
Alma Mater needed an attendance app that worked. They had one. The problem wasn't the user experience — it was that any change to the system took weeks. We rebuilt it on modern foundations so the next ten years of upgrades wouldn't cost what the last one did.
An app that worked, but couldn't evolve
Alma Mater approached us wanting to update the functionality and visual appearance of their existing mobile attendance application. The bigger issue: the production system didn't allow for easy upgrades. Long-term management and improvements were limited and very time-consuming. Migrating to modern technology became the only sensible path forward.
A modern rebuild, end to end
We re-implemented the application using current technology, with a complete restoration of the visual design and a serious focus on performance. The client wanted users to be able to record attendance quickly, easily, and reliably at the courses within their study programme — and that's exactly what we delivered, on foundations built to last.

Attendance, the fastest possible way
The app enables students and professors to easily and quickly record their attendance at scheduled courses across their study programme — through the mobile application on a device they already carry.
No paper rosters, no spreadsheet exports, no laboratory of admin work after each class. One tap, recorded, done — and synchronised to the central system instantly.
Security worth a university's name
Attendance records are sensitive. We put serious emphasis on security by protecting the entire backend system and the web interface — only authenticated and authorised users get anywhere near the data.
Every interaction is checked against the user's role and identity. The architecture is built to satisfy university-grade data-handling expectations, not the bare minimum required to ship.
Easier & cheaper to upgrade — forever
The app was designed and implemented in a way that makes maintenance and upgrades easy. That matters more for educational technology than almost any other sector — academic requirements shift every year, and the system has to move with them.
With modular development of functionalities, we've reduced future development costs and the time required for any new upgrade. Every change is versioned, every release is traceable, and the team has a clear overview of the entire change history.

Alma Mater Europaea — Slovenia's seventh university.
Alma Mater Europaea is an international university initiated by the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg, Austria. Its Slovenian campus — based in Maribor and operating until 2024 as Alma Mater Europaea ECM — became an accredited university in March 2024, the seventh in Slovenia.
The university teaches 25 programmes spanning humanities, social gerontology, ecology, business, web and information technologies, applied artificial intelligence, sustainable development, healthcare, nursing, and physical therapy. Programmes run across Maribor, Ljubljana, Murska Sobota, Celje, Salzburg, and Vienna — meaning the attendance system needs to work everywhere, every day, for thousands of students and faculty members at once.
A small daily ritual, done right.
Attendance-taking is one of those rituals that happens dozens of times a day per campus, year-round. Get it wrong and it becomes a friction every teacher and student complains about. Get it right and nobody thinks about it — which is the highest compliment software can earn. We're proud this one disappears into the routine.
